Donna Sue Poetry

 A rosary clasped tightly

In his little hands

A small little guy with

A spiritual plan

His worries were big as

He knelt by his bed

While thoughts of his daddy

Kept filling his head

“My son”, Dad had whispered

I am counting on you

Take care of your mom and

Take care of you, too!”

Then his dad left for war

He went far away

But Mamma had taught him

To hope and to pray

In PJs and tee shirt

His bear by his side

He prayed each Hail Mary

And tried not to cry

With the cross as his shield

And beads as his sword

This young warrior’s weapons

Could not be ignored

“Hail Mary”, he pleaded

“Help me understand.

Please, bring Daddy home

From that far away land.”

The Mother of God heard

This sweet little boy

Then asked her own Son

To fulfill his joy

And answer God did on

 One bright sunny day

No more going to war

But back now to stay

He ran to his daddy

His tiny feet flew

Picked up into arms

“I’ve been waiting for you!”

He welcomed him home with

Worn rosary in hand

 And hugs, tears, and kisses,

From his little man
