THE SHEPHERD GIRL’S CHRISTMAS

Posted on by Donna Sue

A Shepherd Girl

Bethlehem town was sound asleep,

As were the little lambs.

So she spread her tiny blanket out

To rest upon the sand.

But just as she began to nod

She opened up her eyes,

To see the stars in heaven dance

With Angels in the sky!

As she stared in fascination;

Her heart began to stir.

Then an Angel stood before her,

And spoke to her these words.

Sweet shepherd girl, come quickly.

There’s someone you should see.

Don’t fear the dark of night my child,

Come quickly, come with me!”

She followed him into a cave;

Beheld a sight of joy,

As Angels hovered reverently

Around a baby boy.

The baby looked into her eyes,

She felt her knees grow weak.

She knelt beside the manger crib,

Then kissed his little cheek.

She understood the stories now

About the baby king,

Who’d come to earth to save mankind

And take away death’s sting.

She felt the need to run and tell

The others on the hill.

Her Angel smiled as if to say

Go child, it is God’s will!

Then off she ran into the night

To shepherds whom she knew,

So she could tell about the child

And they could worship too.

My shepherd friends come quickly.

There’s someone you should see.

Don’t fear the dark of night my friends,

Come quickly, come with me!”

*****

Words spoken on that starry night,

Two thousand years ago,

Now joyfully bear repeating in

The Advent candles glow.

As we kneel before the Eucharist

You can hear the Angels sing,

Come see the child of Bethlehem,

Come see the Risen King!”

Merry Christmas

Dear family and friends come quickly.

There’s someone you should see.

Don’t fear the dark of night, dear ones,

Come quickly, come with me!”

I’ve never read this one…..so pretty and cute, if I can use that phrase, never thought about a shepherd girl.
